Weigand Scholars

"The J.L. Weigand Scholarship is an amazing program and I'm very honored to join the distinguished network of Weigand Scholars.  The support of the JL Weigand Trust and the Weigand community is a tremendous resource to help law students and practicing attorneys.  I am truly grateful for the opportunity to join the Weigand family and continue to be thankful for the generous support that is helping me achieve my career goals."

Alisha received her B.S. in Business Administration from Sterling College in 2008 and completed her M.B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in 2011.

After college and graduate school, she worked in business management and patient relations at a large teaching hospital in Portland, Oregon.  Alisha found the projects that involved legal issues quickly became the favorite part of her job, which led her to pursue a legal career.  Alisha will complete her J.D. from the University of Kansas in May 2020 and plans to practice Business and Commercial Law.

As a current 3L at KU, Alisha is a member of Law Review serving as the Law Review Symposium Editor.  She also serves as a Student Ambassador, an officer in the Mindfulness in Law Society, and works as a teaching assistant for Lawyering Skills and Business Law for undergraduates.  During her 3L year, she will work as a judicial intern for Judge Vratil, a Senior U.S. District Judge for the District of Kansas.  Alisha worked as a summer legal intern at Koch Industries in Wichita in 2018 and Stinson Leonard Street in 2019.  She has accepted post graduate employment with Stinson in their Corporate Finance dept.

"I was born and raised in rural Kansas, and after living in the Pacific Northwest for almost five years after graduate school, I knew that Kansas was where I wanted to begin my legal career.  I know first-hand how special the Kansas community is and I am excited to finish school and become a legal professional, where I can make a positive impact on the community and state that I love."
