Application deadline is

February 15th, annually.

In order for students to be considered for a scholarship,
the following documents must be submitted (7 items):

 

1. A Completed Weigand Scholarship Application
How: 
Option 1: Fill out On Line Applicaton (recommended)
Option 2: Download PDF Printable Application
Details: 

Click on Option 1 above if you choose to fill out the application "on-line", otherwise click on Option 2; download the application; print it; fill it out; and mail it to: P.O. Box 9632, Wichita, KS 67277.

2. Two Letters of Recommendation
How: 
Mail to: J.L. Weigand Trust, P.O. Box 9632, Wichita, KS 67277.
Details: 
Two letters of recommendation are required.
These should be from persons who know you well enough to comment substantively as to your scholastic ability, your extracurricular activities, your character in the community and/or your work experiences.   (These may be submitted separately from your other documents, but must be postmarked no later than the deadline date.)
3. Proof of LSAT Score
How: 
Option 1: Forward your email notification directly to our office (claudette@jlweigandtrust.org)
Option 2: Print your score notification, and mail to us (J.L. Weigand Trust, P.O. Box 9632, Wichita, KS 67277).
Details: 
You must submit proof of your LSAT score.
4. Official college transcripts for all schools attended
How: 
Contact the Registrar of all schools you have previously attended and ask for your transcipts be mailed to J.L. Weigand Trust, P.O. Box 9632, Wichita, KS 67277 or e-mailed to: claudette@jlweigandtrust.org
Details: 
Transcripts can be mailed or e-mailed. Many Registrars will electronically send transcripts on request. Minimal fees will most likely apply.
5. Personal Statement
How: 
A document of your "personal statement" can be be mailed to J.L. Weigand Trust, P.O. Box 9632, Wichita, KS 67277 or e-mailed to: claudette@jlweigandtrust.org
Details: 
Your personal statement is extremely valuable to those who review your application for a scholarship.

You are strongly encouraged to develop a thoughtful statement that provides the committee with insights. 

The following questions may be helpful when deciding what topic(s) to include in the personal statement:

What qualities or characteristics best describe you outside of your academic record?

  • What circumstances, events, individuals, or institutions have influenced you and how?
  • What are your core values?
  • What personal and professional goals do you have?
  • If you have particular reasons for studying law and entering the legal profession, what are they?
  • If you have particular views regarding the personal characteristics and attributes that someone in the legal profession should possess, what are they?
  • If you have particular ties to the State of Kansas, which would influence your decision where to ultimately practice law, what are they?

Your personal statement should not exceed three, double-spaced pages and should include your name on each page.

6. Current résumé
How: 
A résumé can be be mailed to J.L. Weigand Trust, P.O. Box 9632, Wichita, KS 67277 or e-mailed to: claudette@jlweigandtrust.org
Details: 
A current résumé is required.
7. Current Photograph
How: 

Option 1: Mail a photograph to J.L. Weigand Trust, P.O. Box 9632, Wichita, KS 67277
Option 2: Click here to upload an electronic image (jpg, bmp, tif, png, gif, pdf accepted).

Details: 
Photograph should be current within the last year.
