“Having been born and raised in Wichita, KS, I am beyond excited to be a J.L. Weigand, Jr. Trust Scholarship recipient. I feel blessed and lucky to be part of this family. Although there is outstanding monetary assistance provided with the scholarship, the people are what matter the most. I hope to honor J.L.’s legacy by serving this state well.”

Paige E. Hungate is a current third-year student at Washburn University School of Law. Her dream has been to go to law school since she was only ten years old, but her path to achieve this goal has changed over the years. After discussions with her high school Calculus teacher (and role model), she was motivated to pursue an engineering degree. She chose to major in both Computer Science and Political Science at Wichita State University. She hopes to practice as a patent attorney following her graduation from Washburn Law.

In law school, Paige participates in multiple extra-curricular activities. She serves as the Senior Articles Editor on the Washburn Law Journal, Treasurer of the Washburn Student Bar Association, Vice President of the Intellectual Property Law Society, Vice President of the Pro Bono Society, and Chair of WashCall. These organizations have formed Paige into the student leader she has always hoped to be. In these roles, she has found a way to give back to the university, the students it serves, and the state as a whole. This upcoming summer, she is splitting her time between two firms: Erise IP and Patterson + Sheridan. At both firms, she will be serving as an intellectual property summer associate.

Outside of studying and participating in student organizations, Paige enjoys spending time with her fiancé and family. She loves anything and everything Kansas and is thrilled to have been selected as part of the Weigand family. Ad Astra Per Aspera!
