“Being a recipient has provided me with many benefits. I am in the fortunate position of not having to live entirely off financial aid and amassing large amounts of student debt. Being a Weigand scholar has also provided me with valuable networking opportunities.”

Eric could easily be regarded as the epitome of a student-athlete in the truest sense of the word. While a student at Colorado State, Eric was a three-year starter and two-year captain on the Ram football team. Due to his many honors, he was the Fall Commencement Student Speaker for the College of Business.
During his study at Washburn University School of Law, Eric was awarded Top Paper in eight classes. Due to his academic success, he was on the Washburn Law Journal staff. While attending Washburn, Eric also interned for Judge Lungstrum, Chief Judge of the Federal District Court of Kansas and spent time as a research assistant for Professor Brad Borden, working on a tax treatise.
In the summers after his first and second year of law school, Eric interned for Foulston Siefkin LLP in Wichita. After law school, he spent one year at New York University School of Law, obtaining his LL.M. in Tax Law and serving as graduate editor of the Tax Law Review.
Eric was with Foulston from 2009 to 2017, advising businesses and tax exempt organizations on entity formation, general business, mergers and acquisitions, real estate, and tax issues. He also represented clients before the Internal Revenue Service and Kansas Department of Revenue.
Eric Pauly is now General Counsel for the IMA Financial Group, Inc., a diversified financial services company that focuses on protecting its clients assets through insurance and wealth management solutions. It is rapidly expanding and has offices throughout the country.
Eric realizes the long-term impact of being a Weigand Scholar. “With the scholarship also comes a responsibility to all past, present, and future scholars. It is our duty to uphold the reputation that connects us with each other and also with the legacy of Mr. J.L. Weigand, Jr,” says Pauly.
“Raising a family and enjoying life in a rural Kansas atmosphere is important to me, as is, representing and working with fellow Kansans in the future.”
