John Shaughnessy was born in Axtell, Kansas and raised in Cimarron, Kansas. He is a fifth generation Kansan who cares deeply for the state and its citizens. After completing law school, he plans to return to Kansas to practice law.
John’s path to law has been unconventional. John graduated from Benedictine College in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Following graduation, he worked in industry for eight years before enrolling at Notre Dame Law School in the fall of 2023. John’s work experience includes time as a manufacturing engineering contractor at GE Transportation and as a senior project manager leading integrated technology projects at both Garmin and Ingersoll Rand. In addition to his engineering degree John also has a master’s in engineering management from the University of Kansas.
John spent his first summer of law school with Kuckelman Torline Kirkland, and will be a summer associate following his 2L year at Husch Blackwell LLP.
“Kansas has been my family’s home since the state was settled. I am grateful for the ability to remain in Kansas and look forward to using my legal education to serve the people of this great state.”
